Rick, I of course really like the Braille Note Apex but I've also become quite fond of the Braille Sense U2 by Hims.  I'm sure you could get a demo from the Hims regional Manager who lives here in Louisville and whose wife works at APH.  His name is Dave Wilkinson and his email is:

Hello, everyone,

My Braille M40 Lite has given up the ghost. I bought it used in 2002. I can do some things with it, but the advance bars don't work. I can use chords, but I cannot write individual letters. If I try that, the machine locks up.

I called Freedom Scientific. They have stopped support of that line of products because they can't get parts.

At some point, I want to get another notetaker. I want something with very durable braille because I would use it mainly for reading books. Any sugggestions?
