Subject: Please Welcome OFB's Newest Employee - Derek Allen

Please join me in welcoming OFB's newest employee, Derek Allen, who began
working September 1st as an Assistive Technology (AT) Instructor at the
McDowell Center. He is filling the position left vacant by Lee Corman's
retirement. 

Derek is originally from Meade County. He lost his vision completely at the
age of 19 and moved to Louisville for better transportation, work and
educational opportunities. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville
where he received a BA degree with a double major in Psychology and
Political Science. He also received his Master's in Justice Administration
from U of L. 

Derek's work experience includes managing the computer lab, requesting
software licenses, and helping students with assistive technology needs at
the Disability Resource Center at U of L. He also worked with Judge David
Holton in the Jefferson District Court system. Derek transferred to us from
the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) where he has worked for the
past three years processing juvenile complaints and working with diversion
programs. His duties also included working with the AOC Technology Services
Department on accessibility issues and modification to the state's CMS
system

and working with the Chairs of the Foster Care Review Board, and the
Regional Inner Agency Council. 

Derek has been married for four years and has a two- year old daughter. In
his free time, he likes playing with his daughter and listening to all types
of music. He has a service dog named Autumn who is an energetic three-year
old Doberman Pincher.
