[NFBKTAD] FW: [NFB-Legislative-Directors] Legislative Alert 11.08.2021

Good Evening, Federationists and Friends:

This is something to pass along. To save you a bit of trouble, John Yarmuth
is the only federal legislator from Kentucky on this list to co-sponsor the
Access Technology Affordability Act (ATAA). At your earliest convenience,
please contact his office at: 202-225-5401. Please read below so that you
will know exactly what to say when you call. John Yarmuth has always been
very supportive of blind legislation over his many years in Washington D.C.
Our remaining Kentucky legislators need to pick it up; this is not, nor
should it be a partisan issue.

As the NFBK Legislative Chair, I will be emailing Representative John
Yarmuth's Office tomorrow.

Respectfully,

Todd

Good afternoon,

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Wanted to give folks a heads up. The email
below will be sent out to all list serves shortly:

Dear Federation Family:

On Monday, November 1, we issued a legislative alert asking all of you to
contact Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Schumer urging them to restore
the Access Technology Affordability Act (ATAA) to the Build Back Better
(BBB) Act. While our response was strong-we estimate hundreds of emails were
sent to each office-the ATAA was, unfortunately, not restored.

Currently, the House version of the BBB is waiting for a Congressional
Budget Office score and is likely to be passed by the House during the week
of November 15. The good news for us is that the Senate is extremely likely
to change the BBB before passing it. This means we have an opportunity to
get the Access Technology Affordability Act back in the bill.

As a result, we are updating our request from the November 1 legislative
alert. First, if you have not already sent your email to Speaker Pelosi or
Majority Leader Schumer's office, please do so. Additionally, if your
individual Senator or Representative has not cosponsored the Access
Technology Affordability Act, please ask them to do so. The more support
the ATAA has in the House and Senate, the better our chances will be to have
it included in the Senate version of the Build Back Better Act.

When you call or email, you might say the following:

"Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME], and I am a constituent of
[SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE NAME]. I live in [CITY, STATE]. I would like to urge
[SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE NAME] to cosponsor the Access Technology
Affordability Act, S. 212/H.R. 431. This legislation removes an employment
barrier commonly experienced by blind Americans who cannot afford the high
cost of access technology by creating a refundable tax credit in the amount
of $2,000 to offset the cost of this technology.

Thanks."

A current list of Senate and House cosponsors is below. You can contact your
member of Congress by calling the Capitol Switchboard and asking for the
office in question. The number is 202-224-3121. We have also attached
contact lists for Senate and House offices to this email. If you email your
senators, please copy Jeff Kaloc at jkaloc at nfb.org <mailto:jkaloc at nfb.org> .
Your calls and emails do make a difference.

Thank you for all that you do,

John
