Reeva and all,

I just found a great app for managing my money. I like it because it's just
a ledger, so you don't actually link it to any bank accounts or anything else.
I installed it about half an hour ago, and I've only done a few transactions,
so I don't know a lot of the bits and pieces, but so far, I'm thinking I'll be
using this baby for keeping track of my finances. And you know, nothing should
ever stand between a girl and her finances.

The app is called Checkbook by Digital Life Solutions:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tts.checkbookenhanced&hl=en

The official Play Store description is later in this
message.

When you open the app, you notice there are three unlabeled buttons across
the bottom of the screen. From left to right, they are New, Transfer Funds,
and Contact Support. Go ahead and label them with TalkBack. There's a Menu
button in the bottom right corner of the screen, where Back, Home, and
Overview are.

To set up an account, tap New. The screen has edit boxes for account name
(e.g., Checking) and Starting Balance. Tap each edit box to type in it. When
you're done, tap Save below the edit boxes.

Whenever you tap on an edit box for numbers, you get a calculator keyboard,
Cancel, 0, OK at the bottom; 1, 2, 3, above that; and so on. It's not
lift-to-type. You actually have to single- or double-tap, depending on how you
have your device set. Always tap OK after you finish entering the
number.

Once your account or accounts have been created (I set up Checking and
Savings), just tap the account to find a list of transactions. Tap New (in the
bottom left corner) to record money coming in or going out. The New
Transaction screen organizes information vertically. From top to bottom,
you're prompted for the amount; the type and Category (both dropdowns); the
description, check number, memo, and date (all edit boxes, with Date being
filled in for you). There's also a check box for marking cleared checks. When
you finish entering the information you think necessary, tap Save near the
bottom right corner. the app returns to the screen that displays transactions,
showing your new balance.

The New Transaction screen has two unlabeled buttons.
One is at the bottom center of the screen (above Home); this is View Scheduled
Events. The other is to the right of the Categories dropdown; this is the Add
Category button.

I haven't set up a Scheduled event yet. This is for
money that comes in or goes out on a regular basis, like payday or auto-bill
pay. The steps seem to be these: tap the account (e.g., Checking), then View
Scheduled Events, then Menu, then Add Transaction. That brings you to a form,
like the new transaction form, but I haven't actually done it to figure out
how well it works. My guess is that you enter the date of the recurring
transaction in the date field.

Anyway, I keep track of this info in
braille, but I think I'll like keeping track of it on my phone. There seems to
be an option for password protecting the app, but I haven't messed with
it.

The only other thing I can say is that you do get more options if
you long-press the accounts. For example, I misspelled the account name, and
one of the options I got when I long-pressed it was Edit, but you don't get
the long-press earcon, so don't be put off.

Play Store

time to stop giving your bank free money from overdraft fees and nonsensical
charges because of poor money management. Checkbook is an app you can
use
in place of a paper checkbook and makes it easier than you think to handle
your finances. Make an impulse purchase today? That's okay, but don't
forget
to deduct it from your account balance. Even the online bank
statements lag when posting transactions-- sometimes causing you to believe
you have more
money than you do. That is not to their disadvantage: it's
yours!

Although we cannot promise you will never overdraft again, we
can promise you that using this app properly, and keeping track of your
transactions will
make it next to impossible.

This version of the
app allows as many accounts as you need and does not have ads. This app works
with 1 phone only. If you want to share a joint account,
this is NOT the
app for you.

Ciao

family has been helping me balance check book for past few months. This task
is pretty much the only thing i still forced myself to do with pen and paper

my own money and want it to be my business only again. I need a check book

android. Yeah, i know about google sheets but can't quite grasp how to use
it. What i'm looking for is a app that is like check book register in app
