Steve Jobs was probably such a person for many people. When I was first introduced to assistive technology I actually didn’t know anything about people like Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. However, on February 17, 1989, exactly 32 years ago on the date that I am composing this message, I sent a check for $1249 to a company named Blazie Engineering for a Braille ‘n Speak notetaker, a service contract, cable adapters and a cassette tape interface for transferring documents to and from a tape recorder. That small but powerful notetaker would not only change my life but would revolutionize it. Deane Blazie was truly my Steve Jobs. Two years later I would find myself moving to Maryland to work for Blazie Engineering for nearly seven years. Without realizing it at the time that position and the experience it would give me launched my career in the assistive technology space with May of this year being my 30<sup>th</sup> anniversary working in this space.
