*Microaggressions: Teleconference*
Wednesday, February 27, 7:30 PM
Call in Number: 605-472-5462, Call in PIN: 337861
The Maryland State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped
continues the NEA Big Read at the University Baltimore celebration of
Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine with a teleconference on
Microaggressions on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at 7:00 PM. The platform
chosen for this event was designed for inclusion, allowing all those who
wish to attend to participate. This book is located on BARD under
DB81184. The event will feature Dr. Harriette E. Wimms, the founder and
director of the Village Family Center of Baltimore, speaking on the ongoing
issues surrounding Microaggressions. Microaggressions are a key theme in
the Big Read's Citizen: An American Lyric, as the author, discusses how
every day assaults on her ethnicity and her gender shapes her view of the
world around her. Dr. Wimms will be speaking about Microaggressions as a
whole and how such assaults are not limited to race and gender. Drawing
from her many years of experience, she will help define and expand our
understanding of Microaggression to include the disabled community, while
helping us find ways to combat the effects of this behavior on our mental
health. The University of Baltimore is one of 79 communities nationwide
participating in the NEA Big Read. From February 7 to March 7, 2019, our
community will celebrate Citizen: An American Lyric with a full calendar of
events including a visit from the author, Claudia Rankine, on March 7.

*Center Stage Mobile Theater: *
Wednesday, February 27, 12:30 PM, LBPH
*TOUCH TOUR - 12:30 PM, PLAY - 1:00 PM*
A civil war has just ended, throwing the city into chaos and tearing
families apart. Desperate to establish peace and order, the victorious
leader, Creon, has issued strict new laws. But his niece, Antigone, resists
these decrees for violating spiritual law and threatening her right to
honor the dead. With lives, loves, and justice on the line, and two
competing truths on a collision course, can the personal and the political
co-exist? What happens when the good of the many clashes with the good of a
few? Who wins when the laws of men confront the laws of nature? And can one
still, small voice really shake the foundations of power? The Baltimore
Center Stage Mobile Unit presents a freshly re-imagined production of
Sophocles’ timeless drama, directed by Daniel Bryant (Twelfth Night,
Endgame)—set in the not-so-distant present, past, and future, and featuring
original poetry by 2016 National Poetry Slam Champion (and local
Baltimorean), Lady Brion. Facebook Link:
