Hi everyone,

It's July - can you believe it? Summer is officially in full swing!

Don't forget that the library is hosting a summer reading challenge! Make

'flavoring agents' so it's healthier and tastes good. Beverly Jackey is a
Family and Consumer Science Educator at the University of Maryland
Extension (UME). As a member of UME’s Healthy Living Action Teams, she
develops and provides community programming and outreach in the areas of
nutrition and chronic disease prevention and management, food safety, and
healthy home environments in Maryland’s Upper Shore Cluster that includes
Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne's Counties.

Jane Dorfman is a performing member and president of Voices-in-the-Glen and
a member of the National Storytelling Network and on the program committee
for the Washington Folk Festival. As a Children’s Librarian, she knows the
importance of reading and listening. Her programs are age-appropriate and
build in lots of opportunities to join in the telling. She will be hosting
an event for LBPH/LBPH patrons on how to craft their own stories. Learn to
tell stories that inspire, entertain, engage, and advocate.

Dr. Psyche Williams-Forson is an Associate Professor and Chair of the
Department of American Studies at the University of Maryland College Park.
She is an affiliate faculty member of the Theatre, Dance, and Performing
Studies, the Departments of Anthropology, African American Studies, Women’s
Studies, and the Consortium on Race, Gender, and Ethnicity. Dr.
Williams-Forson’s work on material culture and food have been published in
her books Taking Food Public: Redefining Foodways in a Changing World and
the award-winning (American Folklore Society) Building Houses Out of
Chicken Legs: Black Women, Food, & Power, as well as in many journals and
book chapters. Her expertise has been featured in a number of media
outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Al Jazeera
America, NPR (National Public Radio), Radio New Zealand, Irish Radio, MSNBC
(the former Melissa Harris-Perry Show), and The Associated Press (wire
service), among others.
