Hello all,
The Friends of the Library for the Blind and Print Disabled is holding its
annual meeting, on Saturday October 30 from 9:30-noon. This year we will be
featuring 2 authors. Marilyn Davidson Elliott and Dr. Joseph Fitzgerald.
Marilyn wrote the Blind Mechanic, a story of a blind mechanic during the
1920's who lived in Nova Scotia. The marrakesh treaty really does work.
This book was originally recorded and produced in Canada. If you want to
read it on BARD, the number is DB104816.
Dr. Fitzgerald wrote a book about a civil rights activist, Gloria
Richardson, from Cambridge, Maryland titled The Struggle is Eternal: Gloria
Richardson and Black Liberation.
There are 3 ways you may participate in the meeting. Come to the library in
person. If you are coming in person, please send an email to
reference.desk at maryland.gov to tell us that you are coming. You may also
participate by Zoom or by calling in. You will receive the zoom and call in
number in a future message. Please be sure to send the email right away if
you are coming in person. We will also be recognizing library volunteers so
please participate and show your appreciation. Learn about two important
pioneers told about in these books by these featured authors.

The National Federation of the Blind of Maryland knows that blindness is
not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Everyday we raise
the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
