University for parents of special needs children, in the MSU Union

May 11 Consumer Involvement Council Meeting, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m., Victor Building, second floor conference room, 201 N. Washington

from organized consumer groups and current agency clients provides
formal consumer input to the Commission for the Blind board. Contact:

May 17-22 Mini Adjustment Program in Gladstone (Located near Escanaba
in the Upper Peninsula). This weeklong event will provide MCB clients
with training in a variety of skills of blindness, e.g., cane travel,
Braille, adaptive kitchen skills, dealing with time and money, and

June 15-25 Summer in the City, a two-week program for MCB clients age
14-21 and in high school. This program features high-school-to-career
transition activities emphasizing daily living skills and employment
skill development. This cash-match program for transition age youth is
sponsored by MCB, the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired
(ABVI), and the Kent, Ionia, and Ottawa intermediate school districts.

June 23 Braille-A-Thon, at the State Capitol in Lansing, on the
south lawn and east steps 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Activities include
Braille contests for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels,
Braille bingo, entertainment, and more. Open to the public and free of
charge. Blind or visually impaired vendors and entertainers and
organizations of and/or serving individuals who are blind or visually
impaired can host a table for $25. All food vendors must be Business
Enterprise Program operators. Registration forms for vendors and
contest participants will be available soon. For more information,

June 25-Aug. 14 MCB 2009 College Preparatory Program at Western
Michigan University for blind and visually impaired high school juniors
and seniors as well as anyone else who would like to pursue college
training, but has not done so as a person who is blind or visually
impaired. For more information, contact one of the MCB College Prep
