I thought I would forward on this message I received from Seedlings
about a new project called ABCs for VIPs (Visually Impaired
Preschoolers).  This sounds like a great way
to get children early on to read Braille.

We are very excited to announce that Seedlings is the proud recipient of a $10,000 grant from Art Van Furniture! This will make it possible for us to launch a wonderful new program here in Michigan called "ABCs for VIPs (Visually Impaired Preschoolers)". But this grant is a challenge grant, so we need your help to make it work ... see below:       
	


	
	    

The Art Van Grant

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Art Van Furniture, Michigan's largest furniture retailer, designated one million dollars to be donated to 50 Michigan nonprofit organizations. They received over 550 applications, and Seedlings was very fortunate to be one of the 50 chosen! We thank Art Van and the Van Elslander family for their generosity and dedication to the children of Michigan!
		

The ABCs for VIPs Program
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~     Thanks to the grant from Art Van, Seedlings has launched a wonderful new program called ABCs for VIPs (Visually Impaired Preschoolers). Partnering with the Michigan Department of Education's Low Incidence Outreach Division, ABCs for VIPs will make 1000 braille books available for loan to teachers, schools, libraries, and individuals throughout the state. 
     Knowing how important it is to surround children with books at an early age, we decided to focus in on Michigan's V-I toddlers and preschoolers. Housing the collection at the Low-Incidence Outreach office will allow access by teachers, libraries, and individuals around the state.
     With access to this large pool of Print-&-Braille books, teachers will have the materials needed to encourage early braille reading, libraries will have books available for ALL children, and parents will be able to nurture the love of reading at home.

The Challenge
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     With the grant from Art Van came a challenge: each grant recipient was challenged to raise a matching amount. Consequently, Seedlings hopes to raise an additional $10,000 to reach our goal of making 1000 books available through our ABCs for VIPs Program. 
     And so we turn to you, our friends and faithful supporters. We hope you will consider making a special donation to support this new program!
