MCB Features Guest Speakers at March 20 Board Meeting in Lansing
March 10, 2009 - The Michigan Commission for the Blind (MCB) will hold its
regular board meeting on Friday, March 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Lansing
at Constitution Hall, Lower Level, Room A/B, 525 West Allegan (between Pine
and Walnut), in Lansing. The meeting is open to the public and will be of
interest to people who are blind or visually impaired, their family members
and friends, and anyone interested in learning more about the state- and
federally funded services provided throughout the state by the Michigan
Commission for the Blind.
Highlights of the meeting will include opportunities for public comment and
the following guest speakers, who will provide updates from 10:15 a.m. to
noon on their organizations' recent activities:
* Gwen Botting, Chair, Comprehensive Design Team for Quality Education
for Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired.
* Joe Sibley, President, Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually
Impaired (MCBVI).
* Fred Wurtzel, President, Michigan Chapter, National Federation of
the Blind (NFB).
Live audio of the meeting will be available to the public on the MCB website
at www.michigan.gov/mcb. The meeting site is accessible. Individuals
attending the meeting are requested to refrain from using heavily scented
personal care products in order to enhance accessibility for everyone.
People with disabilities requiring additional accommodations (such as
materials in alternative format) in order to participate in the meeting
should call Sue Luzenski at (517) 335-4265 by March 17.
The commission's five-member policy board, appointed by the governor,
oversees MCB programs throughout Michigan. For more than 30 years, MCB has
provided training and other services for individuals who are blind or
visually impaired to achieve independence and/or employment in the careers
of their choice, annually serving nearly 4,000 state residents. For more
