MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. -- A legally blind Mount Clemens man said he was beaten
by a group of teens with his own cane as he walked near his home Tuesday
evening.
Dan Perron said he had just cashed a $600 check when he was ambushed by the
group on North River Road, near the Gibraltar Trade Center.
"I was coming home and they knocked me down," he said. "They kicked me all
over, they punched me in the head."
The 50-year-old said his head was smashed against a fence as the teens tried
to get at his money.
"They were trying to tip me upside down to get the money," he said. "That's
the money, all the money, I have in the month to live on."
Perron said he heard the teenagers encouraging others to continue the
beating until they got the money.
"I kept trying to get away and to stand up. When I stand up, 'Boom,' I get
kicked again," he said.
Perron said a Good Samaritan noticed what was happening and chased the group
away.
Perron said he wasn't seriously hurt, but is covered in bruises. He said he
hopes the teens are caught because he doesn't want the same thing to happen
to anyone else.
"If everybody would treat people decent, it would be a better world," he
said.
Police think at least five teens were involved in the robbery and assault,
and that they have talked to some people who may have been involved. But no
arrests have been made.
