Hello Joe,
The really disgusting part of the deal is if the deal does not go
through the school does not revert back to MDE, it goes on the block to the
highest bidder. Our government really made a big mistake in this one.

Today we learned that the deal is stalled and that the Low Incident Outreach
program will be moved back to Flint on this campus. And by the way it is
still the Michigan School for the Deaf and Blind by statute and again we
must follow the money including how the Michigan Department of ED. is
handling the trust for the blind in this and related regards (namely Camp
T).
Regardless this shows the deaf community is listened to as much as the blind
community has been in this and other sorry affairs which is not at all.

Letter: Deaf community wants to keep Fay Hall

Association and the deaf community
To the School Board and PTA of Powers Catholic High School: We the Deaf
people of Michigan oppose the sale of the Michigan School for the Deaf. For
Powers
Catholic High School this is a win-win situation at our expense. The deaf
people are making the utmost sacrifice.
Legislators were misled into believing the deaf community was 100 percent
behind the sale. The input of the deaf community was never sought. The deaf
people
were never asked if we wanted a new school or to keep and move to Fay Hall.
The agreement as written does not guarantee the survival of MSD
"permanently"
once the lease expires.
Vatican City is an emotional part of Catholic life. Catholics worldwide
would object to a sale of the Vatican. The Vatican is the history, culture,
and
foundation of your church. It is what makes you a Catholic. Likewise MSD is
our Vatican. It is our history, culture and foundation. It is what ties the
deaf community together. It is our pride. For example, do you socialize with
your kindergarten classmates today? Deaf adults still socialize with their
kindergarten classmates today because of MSD.
Fay Hall has no sentimental value to Powers Catholic High School. The deaf
people of Michigan have more than 150 years of history in Fay Hall and the
campus.
We the deaf people of Michigan are asking you to take the new school
building. The deaf people are asking you to allow us to keep our Vatican
City, Fay
Hall. This calls for you to do the right thing. Give Fay Hall to the deaf
people where it rightfully belongs.
