Hi Jeff,

Braille will become unimportant when the print alphabet becomes unimportant
for sighted folks. Technology only enhances the availability of information
in Braille (like with refressible Braille, etc.) just like it gives sighted
folks more availability to the printed word or other visually delivered
information. It is illogical for some to assume that Braille is irrelevant
solely because of the advent of technology just as, again technology doesn't
make the printed word, or the basics of the alphabet irrelevant.

In fact while some dispute the content of what sighted kids are reading
technology including computers to smart phones has caused reading and
writing to go up dramatically. In fact the availability of information or
the explosion of it has caused this to come into being. I mean kids are
texting all the time for example.

Now, while there have been set backs the same thing goes for blind kids and
thus Braille is not irrelevant technology or not.

The bottom line is that sighted folks need to learn to read and write. So do
blind folks. The method, or medium might be different but the principles are
the same.

Don't ever let those who are ignorant, or those who just don't know to take
any tool for literacy, and the quest for information and knowledge away from
you. It is the greatest arrow in your quiver to become a fully informed,
independent and successful human being.

Bless you for the question sir!

Peace with Justice,

Joe

i know this is off topic just want to know what you all think. some
boddy at my school asked me how important is braille, and i told them
it is very important, cause i know that technology is starting to take
over braille, but what would happen if technology was to brake. do you
think braille will die out in 10 to 15 years.. thinks
