Sorry to see you go Bob, haven't herd much from you on this list for years.

But, this is a FOIA response that kind of goes to trust and openness between the agency, consumers, stakeholders and the Vision 20/20 issue I guess...

Sincerely,

Joe Harcz

Here is the information on the possibilities of getting security and bullet-proof draping at Commission meetings.

Thanks Bob! You did great work on gathering this information and I am most appreciative.

I have forwarded this information on to Jo Ann Pilarski but asked that she not share it far and wide and I will ask you to do the same as I do not want to create any sense of "alarm" on the subject of security.

Thanks again,

Pat

Hi Pat -

After talking with Steve Monet, I've got some info you can "take under advisement" and share with Commissioners if you so wish. Steve is still checking into the feasibility of bullet-proof draping for the conference rooms tables. He wants us to take a digital photo of the tables in the conference room upstairs and include their measurements so the company who makes the draping can give us an estimate on the costs. I thought we could do this when Susan gets back later this week.

As for other buildings, he said there are several in the area. He mentioned the State Library or Capitol Commons as two possibilities downtown. There is also the General Office Building at the Secondary Complex and the building down on Pierpont where the Public Service Commission meets. All of these facilities have someone at the front desk checking IDs and issuing visitor passes. Steve pointed out that these so-called "security guards" do not get involved in apprehending or stopping bad guys. In other words, if someone disrupts a meeting the folks at the front desk won't come running to the rescue. We would need to call the Capitol Security for that.

Finally, Steve gave me the name of the guy in DMB, Jeff Pratt, we can contact (241-4391) if we want to see about having our own security guard at a meeting in this building. We would need to tell him how often we'd need someone, how many hours each time, the place and time, and then whether we wanted an armed or unarmed guard. We would most likely have to pay for those services. We cannot just "borrow" a guard from another building.

I think this is a good 'first step' in gathering some info that you and the Board can use to decide a 'next step' so if you need more, let me know.

Good afternoon fellow listserv members -

Back in about 2000, the agency was embarking upon a new venture - the 2020 Visioning Process. I found a document from back then that outlined some of the 2020 Guiding Principles. I won't list all of them but here are some of them from back then:

  - To create a learning organization for MCB

  - To invite staff to become learning facilitators and involve them in assisting MCB in capacity development

  - To create synergy with all involved members and allies of MCB

  - To involve everyone on a daily basis where we all can learn together and begin to trust and positively collaborate with others

  - To foster inclusive, not exclusive, practices in MCB

  - To give people an opportunity to dream, to share purpose, and to practice the philosophy of blindness

  - Create an organization learning climate where people feel connected

  - To search for mutual vision sharing opportunities

  - To include everyone and avoid feelings of separation and fragmentation

  - To strengthen relationships and trust across MCB

  - To create an equitable forum in which all can participate

One of the tools to help the agency reach the objectives noted above was the 2020 Listserv. It was established as a tool for MCB staff, consumers, community partners, and others to engage in dialogue and to share concerns, rehab issues, ideas, and successes. If a counselor or teacher in one part of the state had an issue the hope was he/she would post something on the listserv and others from around the state would chime in. It was supposed to be a safe, trusting environment for all participants. It clearly is no longer accomplishing what it was designed to do.

At last count, there were 41 members to this listserv. Of that number, 16 were MCB staff which means that out of the approximate 107 MCB employees, only 16 choose to remain on the listserv. Obviously, it's no longer working as we initially intended. Therefore, it is with some hesitation and reluctance that I will be leaving the listserv. As one of the original members of the 2020 Design Team, it really pains me to do this. Yet, the listserv does not provide a forum for dialogue or an exchange of ideas so there is really no reason to be a subscriber. I might even question whether the listserv is necessary any longer but that's not for me to decide.

  Reluctantly signing off..

  Bob Robertson

  MCB
