Blind teens to learn high-rope climbing Tuesday at Michigan summer program in Petoskey | The Republic

PETOSKEY, Mich. — Eighteen blind teenagers are getting the chance to learn high-rope climbing as a team-building exercise.

 

The teens are attending a summer program this week at Camp Daggett in Petoskey sponsored by the Michigan Commission for the Blind.

 

It's one of the commission's eight summer youth programs this year designed to prepare blind and visually impaired teens for independence and the transition

from high school to college classes or a job.

 

The team-building exercise will take place Tuesday afternoon.

 

The 18 participants range in age from 14 to 19 and come from all over the state. They're participating in hands-on demonstrations by professionals in a

variety of careers.

 

They hope to get jobs as teachers, electrical engineers, musicians, computer support specialists, auto mechanics, artists, appliance repair technicians,

attorneys and actors.
