Did you know that it is respectable to be blind? Did you know that with the right training and opportunity, a blind person can compete on an equal basis with his/her sighted peers? This is true for all aspects of life from employment to family life and hobbies.  

Presenter Terri Wilcox uses alternative skills of blindness to fulfill her responsibilities as Secretary of the National Federation of the Blind of Michigan. Braille is one of these alternative skills. Did you know that it is possible to read Braille at three hundred words per minute or more (Both Terri and husband do this)?  Yet, only ten percent of blind children are being taught Braille. 

The National Federation of the Blind is changing this sad statistic one life at a time. Through her work  - especially as coordinator of the programming at  the 2011 Braille Camp sponsored by National Federation of the Blind of Michigan. Terri Wilcox is helping to change what it means to be blind in Michigan.
