Hadley Appoints New Dean

The Hadley School for the Blind has promoted instructor Douglas M. Anzlovar to the position of Dean.

Anzlovar officially began his new position on July 1, but has been with Hadley for three years serving as a member of the faculty, specializing in Math.

Visually impaired since birth, Anzlovar spent nearly 10 years with the Chicago Public Schools before coming to Hadley, including serving as the Special

Education Department Chair at Walter Payton College Prep High School. His experience also includes working as an assistive technology specialist at The

Chicago Lighthouse for People Who are Blind or Visually Impaired.

As Dean, Anzlovar will supervise faculty; work with the Student Services Department on questions of eligibility and resolving student concerns; assist with

Seminars at Hadley, the school’s popular online seminars, and other strategic initiatives; participate in curriculum development to expand and improve course

offerings; and continue to teach Pre-Algebra 1 and 2.

When asked about Hadley’s future from a curriculum standpoint, Anzlovar notes that staying ahead of evolving technologies is going to be critical. “This

is not only a challenge but also an opportunity for Hadley to offer courses in a variety of formats to better serve its diverse audiences and to promote

Hadley as a global leader in distance education for the blind and visually impaired,” he says.

Anzlovar notes that Hadley’s form of distance education is very unique because it offers students a self-paced learning style but with personalized instruction.

“Even at a distance, students have access to qualified instructors who are available to provide additional support to help them succeed,” he adds. “What

is especially gratifying is hearing from a student how much you have impacted their life by offering them an opportunity to learn something new.”

Anzlovar holds a Master’s of Science in Adult Rehabilitation of the Blind and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education, emphasis teacher of the visually

impaired, both from Northern Illinois University.
