Function:
The Disability Specialist in Accessible Media Services (AMS), in consultation with Illinois students, faculty and staff, is responsible for ensuring that
print and multimedia content is rendered in a timely, accurate and accessible format for students with disabilities attending the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign who are registered with the Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES). The position may also provide alternative
format and captioning services for campus units, faculty, staff and guests with disabilities with the approval of the DRES Director.

Organizational/Supervisory Relationship:
The position reports to the DRES Assistant Director for Academic Services. Incumbent works closely with the disability specialist in the DRES Accessible
Media Office.Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

A. Ensure that print-based content is provided in a timely, accurate and accessible format. More specifically, this includes:

1.Informing and maintaining regular contact with AMS students. This includes informing qualified students of their responsibilities in the text conversion
process, instructing them on how to use the AMS website, and updating them on the status of their materials.

2.Assist in maintaining and updating the AMS database. This includes keeping accurate records of text conversion work that is in progress or completed,
dates that all materials are to be converted were received by the AMS, as well as assistance in authoring and updating AMS policies.

3.Procuring materials to be converted prior to the beginning of each semester, which includes ongoing communication with instructors, the Illini Union Bookstore
and textbook publishers, and accessing and converting online resources (instructor online notes, Web-CT, Compass, E-Reserves, etc.)

4.Evaluating, operating, troubleshooting, and supervising the process of scanning and proofing content to ensure the timely and effective delivery of accessible
materials in alternate formats.

B. Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of multimedia content (videos, podcasts, audio recordings, narrated PowerPoint lectures) in an accessible format

1.Informing and maintaining regular contact with qualified students regarding their responsibilities with closed captioning and to provide them with necessary
updates.

2.Maintaining accurate records of captioning projects in progress, work completed and dates that videos to be captioned are received by the AMS.

3.Maintaining departmental billing records for closed captioning services.

4.Work collaboratively with instructors and assist campus units as required to ensure adherence to federal copyright laws when captioning multimedia.

C. Maintain functional knowledge of the latest technology and techniques in use by like organizations as it applies to the mission of AMS.

1.Participate in the evaluation of new software and procedures for the purpose of improving the effectiveness and/or efficiency AMS operations.

2.Test and document scanning software to determine the most accurate and efficient scanning technique needed for customized output.

D. Supervise and assist AMS personnel including the Office Support Specialist, graduate assistants, and/or student hourly employees working in AMS in the
Supervisor's absence.

E. Serve as liaison between AMS and DRES academic service offices regarding text conversion assignments, timeframes, and other text conversion issues.

F. Participate in the development and implementation of disability education training for the Urbana-Champaign campus related to the accommodation of timely,
accurate and accessible communications with students with disabilities.

G. Conduct service responsibilities for the College of AHS (e.g., search committee, subcommittees, special events).

H. Support DRES Testing Center services as needed.

I. Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
This position requires a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in rehabilitation, education, psychology, or closely related field, and knowledge of the specialized
assistive technologies and information technologies used to provide alternative accessible media and content. Experience in the delivery of such services
is preferred. Applicant must be self-directed in time management, prioritize work duties, respond to evolving concerns and situations as they emerge, and
exhibit great attention to detail. Applicant is also required to exhibit and show a desire and ability to effectively participate in and contribute to
team processes at the unit, division, and institutional levels.

This position is regular full-time academic professional. Salary is commensurate.
