Mike, I just saw your post indicating that your Mom was as bothered by this situation as are you. That is great news, because with the 2 of you working together, you should be able to get it handled fairly easily...even if it is Social Security. Your Mom should be able to simply call the Social Security office nearest her, or any other SSA office for that matter, and request that she be removed as Payee on your SSI. That should take care of it right away.

Hope this helps.

Warm Regards,
Christine

If that does not work, then you should march right back down to that office and wait to see a representative. If you get a person who tells you that you cannot have your own SSI check deposited into your own account because you are blind, or because you are blind and have an additional disability, they are not being honest with you.

If your Mom is willing to simply allow you to become the payee on your own account, that is the easiest way. Even if a parent is not willing though, once you reach the age of majority (18) you are entitled to receive all Social Security benefits to which you are entitled, directly deposited into your own account.

In which case, once you turn eighteen, you should be able to receive the checks under your name without any problem. If you are already over the age of eighteen, I would suggest talking to another case manager, or perhaps a supervisor.

>>> Yesterday i stopped by Social Security as i wanted to remove my mom as my payee and control the account myself. Only problem is, teh SSIrep tole me flat out i can not be my own payee, because of my disability, blindness. Is this the actual law? It seems to me that this flies completely against the ADA, and 4 other reps before hand told me i could control my own account. So does anyone here have the straight truth? Can I or can Inot control my own SSI, regardless if i'm blind.
