Hello Lydia and all.
I guess the media has a hard time getting their arms around the concept of a
blind person being an activist or a lawyer who could actually escape from
anything. By continuing to tell us that he is blind they can stay with
their all too familiar stereotype of the amazing incredible blind man image
and not have to delve further into his message and plans involving his
escape.

Subject: [nfbmi-talk] blind lawyer

Hello Friends,
I keep wondering why, when they mention the "blind, self-taught lawyer"
in China who escaped his house arrest and went to the US Embassy, they
keep mentioning that he was blind. They drop the other parts, but they
keep mentioning that he is blind...Is this a good or bad thing to keep
mentioning it? What do you all think? Lydia Schuck
