[nfbmi-talk] places to live in Michigan

Detroit is my home town too. I grew up in SW Detroit. Moved from there 28
years ago. Unfortunately much has changed, and became more dangerous than it
has ever been in the past. Is transportation any different from E Lansing
and Lansing? I'm looking for long hours, weekend, and holiday service of
operation. I recently looked at the transportation service in Kalamazoo,
transportation, service isn't long enough of hours of operation.

Hello,

I don't mean to be picky, but there is Lansing, and then there is East
Lansing. They are two different cities and have different characteristics.
We live in Lansing, but then we do have the benefit of having the university
close to us. Lansing is a unique melding of blue collar because of the auto
industry, and then it is the capitol city which gives it another ambiance.
Michigan State is also very different from the University of Michigan. Even
though I like to joke around about being a Michigan alumni, I grew up here
in the shadow of Spartan territory, and I also do love many things about
Michigan State.
Before I close I must put in a word about my home town. I am not
encouraging someone to live there or not to live there. I just want to say
than Detroit is not all bad. I do pray that some day the neighborhood
blight will be cleaned up.
Mary

Both have heavy college influences but have a lot more to offer than just
being a college town. It just so happens that many college students don't
have cars thus a decent transit system. There's a lot going on in downtown
with lots of young people, but the major university is in Allendale which is
a bit outside the city.
Grand Rapids is also another option with a growing system that runs until
midnight on weekdays with dedicated bus rapid transit lanes coming soon.

Best regards,
J.J.
