This position is with the Oregon Commission for the Blind located in Salem,
Oregon.

This is a permanent full time position.

Oregon Commission for the Blind

For over 50 years, the Oregon Commission for the Blind has been an important
resource

for Oregonians experiencing vision loss, as well as their families, friends,
and

employers.

Our mission is to assist persons experiencing vision loss in making informed
choices

and decisions to achieve full inclusion and integration in society through
employment,

independent living, and social self sufficiency.

Our nationally recognized programs and expert staff work with the visually
impaired

to instill confidence and build skills in all aspects of day-to-day life:
from grocery

shopping to reading to surfing the Web.

We are headquartered in Portland and have field offices and resources
available in

Salem, Eugene, Baker City, Redmond, Medford, and Roseburg.

The Oregon Commission for the Blind (OCB) strives to create inclusive

Orientation and Career Center

The Oregon Commission for the Blind's Orientation and Career Center for the
Blind

(OCCB) provides people who are blind with independent living and
pre-employment skills

and also assists in building self-confidence and a positive attitude about
blindness.

The majority of the Center's participants are people who have become blind
in adulthood

and must learn new methods of performing everyday activities. Students are
referred

to the center by Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors. Training includes,
but is

not limited to: adaptive technology, assessment/training (screen-reading
software,

optical character recognition, magnification hardware/software, refreshable
braille

displays, etc.), adjustment to blindness, Braille reading/writing, low
vision assessment/training,

orientation and mobility (white cane travel/transportation training),
techniques

of daily living, cooking, wood shop, personal/organizational management, job
skill/aptitude

assessment/training, supervised work experience (including the Summer Work
Experience

Program for transition students) and life/work planning. Expert staff work
with persons

who are visually impaired to instill confidence and build skills in all
aspects of

day-to-day life: from grocery shopping to reading to surfing the Web.

While the Commission for the Blind's primary Technology Center is located in
Portland,

three smaller, satellite offices located in Salem, Eugene, and Medford.
These locations

are used for both technology assessments as well as training purposes.

The Center (including the field office training programs) work in
conjunction with

the other agency programs to insure that OCB's mission is carried out.

 Duties & Responsibilities:

The position is located in a Technology lab and is responsible for (but not
limited

to) the following:

Provide one-on-one and group technology training to OCB clients, staff, and
third-party

vendors as needed.  Training will include: blindness-related adaptive
technologies,

keyboarding, basic Windows/Office products, and Apple products and software.

 Qualifications & Desired Attributes:

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree in Rehabilitation Teaching for the Blind, Special
Education for

the Visually-Impaired or Orientation and Mobility;OR

A Bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation Teaching for the blind or Special
Education

for the Visually-Impaired, and one year of related experience (described
below);OR

A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Education or a Social or Behavioral
Science and

two years of related experience (described below); OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Related Experience:

Experience working with people with visual impairments that included at
least four

of the following:

Direct instruction in adaptive techniques;

Analyzing barriers and developing solutions;

Assessment of adaptive skill level;

Development of training programs;

Case management and documentation;

Resource Management (funds and services);

Advocacy for person with vision loss;

Counseling in adjustment to blindness;

Using and/or instructing use of adaptive equipment specific to people with
vision

impairments; or

Interagency coordination.

To receive credit for completed coursework you must submit a photocopy of
your transcripts.
