Hello,
I want to put in a good word for Lansing. It is a medium size metropolitan
area with excellent transportation for blind people. The bus service is 1
of the best in the state, especially in metro areas. Michigan State
University is here along with a number of smaller colleges and Universities.
We have a nice NFB chapter which meets the 3rd Monday of each month in a
very bus friendly place.
Donna is sure right about our state. It is a fantastic place for almost any
activity, indoors or out. Donna has organized a Birding by Ear group which
meets on a Saturday morning in a very nice nature center. I agree with the
others, you will probably want to stay in Wayne county, near Detroit or
Eastern Dearborn if you choose that area. The City of Detroit is a place
where you may want to consult with Jim or others about where to locate.
Some places are very nice and other not so nice. I, personally liked living
in Detroit when I was younger.
We will all be glad to answer questions that you may have.
Warm Regards,
fred

Yes I love sunflowers. Does your friend get the Metro Lift in Farmington
Hills? Have you or anyone heard of hamtramic? It is a very small area kind
of sub of Detroit, it's a Pollish community. I'm not Pollish, lol. I
remember that area when I was growing up, and my Mom use to go there for
shopping.

Hi and I am glad you are coming to Michigan. Though people have complaints
about individual cities I would say that Michigan is the number one
wonderful state in terms of the Great Lakes, diversity in agriculture, State
and national parks, mountains, waterfalls beaches and I could go on and on.
My friend who is blind lives in Farmington Hills and it takes her hours to
get to work or the chapter meeting in Wayne County so I don't believe they
have the greatest transportation. I would not discount Dearborn if you stay
far enough east to use Metro Lift and the Smart connector. By the way, I
love your email address. Do you like sunflowers. At our Celebrate Urban
Birds event on April 6 the participants will be receiving sunflower seeds to
plant as birdfeeders. This reminds me that in Dearborn we have the
University of Michigan Dearborn Environmental Interpretive Center which is
called an Island of Green in a Sea of Suburbia and it houses the longest
running Urban Bird study in the country. These things make it the best place
to live as far as I am concerned. See you in Michigan, Donna Posont Field
