Employment Team Advocate Job Posting April 2014

 

Michigan Protection & Advocacy Service, Inc. (MPAS) has a full-time (37.5 hours a week) Employment Team position in the Lansing office.

 

The Employment Team provides dispute resolution services to clients of Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Bureau of Services for Blind Persons, Centers for

Independent Living, beneficiaries of Social Security and individuals needing assistive technology. Once cleared through a security clearance process the

Employment Team monitors Representative Payees of beneficiaries of the Social Security Administration. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited

to: providing timely investigations and direct advocacy assistance, including information and referral, technical assistance and representation to clients

in accordance with agency policy and division priorities; and conducting outreach and training to unserved and underserved populations.  Extensive in-state

travel required, along with some out-of-state travel.

 

Applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree in a human services related field and at least two to four years of related human services experience including

experience working with disability rights.  Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication and problem solving skills, including the ability

to mediate, negotiate, and work effectively with individuals and groups.  Applicant must be able to work well with individuals from diverse cultural and

socioeconomic backgrounds and with a variety of disabilities.  Familiarity with disability policy, systems and resources – most importantly the Rehabilitation

Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act, assistive technology and the Social Security Administration is

required.
