Job Information

 

Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired is seeking an MSW for part-time work of 18 hours per week, which may develop into a full time position.  Job

responsibilities include: providing psycho-social intake assessments; counseling to include crisis and grief counseling and issues related to loss of sight

(to include effectively assisting with families in negotiating relationship, communication and care giving issues); referrals to and collaborations with

community resources in a multi-county service area; developing online and social media forums for communication, community-building and practice outreach

initiatives; short-term case-management for occasional emergency situations; case collaboration with professional rehabilitation colleagues; and occasional

presentations to groups.

 

The successful candidate will have an MSW with Michigan license and be credentialed by or eligible for credentialing by Medicare, have knowledge of community

resources for the seniors and disability community, and be able to meet with clients across a multi-county service area.  Post-masters level practice experience

with the senior and/or disability community is highly desirable.

 

This position requires the ability to effectively listen and communicate with compassion and humility, authority and positive direction, utilizing a counseling

frame of reference that is client- directed.  Other attributes will include the ability to enter into, learn from, and become a spokesperson and advocate

for the culture of the blindness community and have an understanding that those with loss of sight wish to achieve their potential and dreams.
