Tell Goodwill of Western New York to Stop Paying Subminimum Wages

People with Disabilities deserve the same wages as everyone

CALL NOW!

Disability Rights advocates are in Buffalo, NY, RIGHT NOW at the Headquarters

for Goodwill Industries of Western New York, Inc., demanding to see President

and CEO, Thomas Lynch.

Goodwill is one of the leading non-profits that takes advantage of a section

of the Fair Labor Standards Act that allows employers to pay people with

disabilities subminimum wages. While Goodwill pays employees with disabilities

less than minimum wage sometimes as low as 22 cents an hour it is bringing

in millions of dollars for their agencies and high level executives. It is

legal for Goodwill to do this under section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards

act which was enacted in 1938. This ancient law allows Goodwill to apply for a

14(c) certificate to pay people with disabilities pennies per hour and the

Federal government has approved it.

This practice does nothing for people with disabilities other than trap them

in mundane, repetitive, segregated jobs that pay pennies per hour.

More information on subminimum wages and sheltered workshops can be found

at

https://nfb.org/fair-wages

This exploitation of people with disabilities cannot be tolerated.

Advocates are in the lobby of the Buffalo Goodwill office RIGHT NOW.

You can support them by calling their switchboard and demanding that President

Lynch surrender his 14(c) certificate and that he call on other Goodwill

chapters to do the same.

Call now and if its busy, try again in a few minutes!
