[nfbmi-talk] list of current nac accredited agencies fyi

Joe, if in fact the two persons you mentioned smell a rat, then why would
they not be more outspoken and at least attempt to take the correct and
honorable action to bring about positive change, as is their charge and oath
as representatives of the administration and the consumer public? Of
course, this is a rhetorical question, and we all likely know the obvious
answer.

Dear Dave and All,

The goodly doctor who chairs the BSBP Board is just that. She is a sweet and

smart woman and she means quite well. Unfortunately she looks at things from

a medical model and from her low vision perspective. There is a place for
these things but it is not for NFB as we are nominally a civil rights
organization made up of the organized blind speaking for ourselves.

Moreover, another person from Henry Ford, Ann Rittering is actually on the
MCRS our Statewide Rehab Council which is now the so-called power base and
voice of the consumer.

Yet, this is the same person who while chairing the last MCRS meeting
chastised you publicly for referring to Ed Rodgers as a "buffoon".

Now, I contend the issue isn't just the mindset, but also following federal
laws including the Rehab Act itself.

But, both are at play here.

Both of the aforementioned folks smell a rat at BSBP and know it hides
information and keeps the BSBP Commission away from talking with staff and
consumers. So when these folks know there is a problem then that says
legions in my mind.

As per NAC it has long ago ceased being a problem in my mind for it simply
is an impotent failing organization.

The only thing it really does is enrich Bill Robinson and his staff and if
local outfits wish to be ripped off then that is up to them.

It's a shame and a waste of money, but it is what it is. NAC has failed upon

its own inertia long ago.

Now some of the NAC affiliated outfits do do some good work on a case by
case basis. Some quickly get itinerent teachers out to the newly blinded and

at least give some basics without a charge. Some don't. The so-called
accredidation is totally irrelevent though once again IMO. To be redundent
though if one is newly blinded and lives in the Grand Rapids area he or she
might well get some basic services faster from the Association there than
through BSBP itself which says it all in my mind.

In other words BSBP while not NAC accreditated is even worse than NAC
accredited outfits which is the real elephant in the room here.

Best,

Joe
