Hello Fred,

Thank you for posting this link to the email list. It looks as though those
who participated in this event had a great time while learning about
science. However, in the future it would be helpful to have the criteria for
selecting adult volunteers and mentors made available up front as you are
planning such a program. The NFB claims that it is open to everyone who
wishes to be a part of it. However, this was definitely not the case with
the Summer Science Spectacular. . If the NFB is going to be selective in
choosing NFB members to volunteer to participate in such events then it
would be rather helpful to include some sort of application process that is
not based upon personal preferences that do not automatically reject someone
from participateing without even giving them a chance. I just do not think
it is fair to reject someone at the last minute for personal reasons when
this person made a genuine effort to help out in whatever way was needed all
summer long. It just seems to me like those who are in charge of this event
are sending out mixed messages about what it means to be blind. It seems as
though opportunities are given to some while not given to others, and I just
do not see how this is fair to anyone. If the NFB is truly open to everyone
who wishes to be a part of it then there really should be no need to reject
those who somehow do not measure up to the unrealistic expectations of
perfection.
