Minutes, National Federation of the Blind of Michigan
Quorum yes, Larry Posont, J.J. Meddaugh, Terri Wilcox, Mark Eagle, Dave Robinson, and Mary Wurtzel.
Introduction of Participating Members
Secretary's Report, Terri Wilcox. Dave Robinson moved to adopt the Secretary's Report after discussion of two corrections. J.J.
Meddaugh seconded the motion. The Minutes were adopted.
Treasurer's Report, Mark Eagle. Terri Wilcox moved to adopt the Treasurer's Report. Mary Wurtzel seconded the motion. The motion
passed.
President's Report, Larry Posont. The Discovering Opportunities for Employment and Success conference is this week end.
Twenty-eight people are participating. This is a favorable turn out with several new people. Terri Wilcox went to speak to the
University of Michigan Regents and the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority concerning the Michigan Flyer. New travel mugs cannot go
in the dishwasher. Standard mugs are ordered for sale.
Employment Seminar Jordyn Castor, J.J. Meddaugh. Jordyn is excited for the seminar. There are 28 participants. New" ambitious
people are attending who are determined to reach their career goals. Seminar topics include: resume critiques, resume building,
business dining etiquette, a panel on disclosing disability and nonverbal communication. Candice Chapman, a representative from the
National Association of Blind Students will attend. Hayley Balogh and Terri Wilcox are speaking. The Seminar will be educational
and will focus on membership building. The Seminar should be under budget since the National Association of Blind Students paid for
Candice Chapman's flight. The National Federation of the Blind of Michigan is paying for rooms, meals and thumb drives for
participants. Board members can attend. The Does Seminar and Science Camp are covered under liability insurance.
Youth Outreach, Fred Wurtzel Donna Posont. Sensational Adventures in Summer Science will occur in late July to early August. We
continue to work on liability and proper oversight of students. Youth slam materials are being edited for use in Sass. Kary Supalo
will attend. The contract work for Sass is way ahead. There is a question on sales tax on hotel rooms. Training for labquest is
being sought. Brochures for Sass will be on the thumb drives given out at the Does Seminar.
National Convention 2015 Affiliate Financial Support $3,000 was allocated to assist people to attend National Convention. Call
Larry Posont by May 1.
Update Access to Metro Airport, Terri Wilcox. Terri Wilcox spoke to the regents and to the Transportation Authority Board in Ann
Arbor. A friendly brief is being written. Our attorney, Fred Baker is very conversant the on facts. It will cost $5,000 for a
brief with a $250 charge per hour. Judges do not want to run the airport but are friendly towards accessibility. Judges do not
generally reopen these cases.
Scholarships, Terri Wilcox. Scholarships are coming in slower than normal. State scholarships are on the thumb drives being
presented at the Does Seminar.
The Quarterly Board Meeting is Saturday, May 16 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 420 W. Liberty in Ann Arbor.
New Business: The conference number used by the students will be explored as an alternative. The Constitution Committee is working
on a draft that will be ready by the Board Meeting in May. Mark Eagle, Larry Keeler, and Mary Wurtzel will meet with Legislators
regarding Guide Dogs.
Terri Wilcox moved to Adjourn at 9:28. Dave Robinson seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned.
