(WXYZ) - The eviction clock is still ticking for Bruce Smith and his seeing eye dog Marly. But, efforts are being made that will allow him and his dog to

stay in the home.

Brent Maxwell is the managing director for a metro Detroit investment group. When a friend posted the story about Bruce Smith facing eviction from the home

he thought he owned, Maxwell did some digging about the deed.

In 2011, Smith says he bought the house on land contract. He was proud when he paid it off and got the deed in 2013.

A couple of weeks ago, Smith discovered he no longer owned his home. It was sold in the Wayne County Auction last fall. Smith claims he didn't know the

taxes hadn't been paid on the home and it had gone into foreclosure.

Eastwood Ventures purchased the home and informed Smith he needed to make arrangements with them to remain in the home, or be evicted.

Maxwell's Facebook friend suggested raising money to buy back Smith's home. Maxwell jumped in, agreeing to match his friend's donations.

Action News reached out to Eastwood Ventures, but have not heard back.

Maxwell was able to contact the new owner.

Late this afternoon, Eastwood Ventures agreed to sell the home back to Smith for $500.00. Closing is scheduled for later this week.
