Hello Terry,

I think it is ok to ask about the cane if the point is to enforce the white
can law which states that a driver is to stop within 15 feet of a person
with a cane. Otherwise, people should not run over pedestrians. They are
not allowed to run into other cars, so, why should they be allowed to kill
people, blind or not?

Warmest Regards,

Fred

Excellent questions and points Fred.
Is it valid to ask if the victum was using a white cane when struck?

Hello Lydia,

I want to know more about the driver. Was she sighted? Did she have
epilepsy? Did she have a heart condition? Is she being treated for
depression? Could her feet reach the pedals? Did she have fight with her
spouse? Does she use medical marijuana? How fast was she traveling when she
hit the victim? Was she talking on her cell phone? Was she sending a text?
How old was she. Was she in the correct lane? Did her brakes work
properly. Was she using her headlights?

Why is the focus on the victim. If this was a fender bender, someone would
be ticketed. Someone is dead and no charges or ticket issued. I believe
the law in Michigan is that drivers must stop "within a safe assured clear
distance." She clearly violated this law, if my interpretation of the law
is correct. I do not care if he is blind or not. Cars should not kill
pedestrians.

Warmest Regards,

Fred

What do you all think about every news piece mentioning that the man was
blind? And if he died from cancer, would they keep mentioning his
blindness?

LANSING -

A memorial service for Charles Walter Glime, a legally blind Lansing man
who died after being struck by a vehicle downtown, will be held Sunday at a
funeral home in Metro Detroit.

Glime, 31, was hit at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday while walking near
Walnut and Ionia streets. He died Wednesday afternoon.

"It's still being determined the events that caused the incident," said
Lansing police Public Information Officer Robert Merritt. "At this point in
the investigation, we're confident that alcohol wasn't a factor with the
driver."

The motorist has cooperated with police, he said.

Merritt said police are expected to receive Glime's autopsy results "within
the next week".

Glime managed a cafeteria in the State of Michigan's Lewis Cass Building for
about four years and benefited from Michigan's Public Act 260 of 1978, which
mandates that food concessions on state property will be operated by blind
people.

Glime is the son of Anne Steinman and Charles L. Glime. He is also survived
by brother Eric Glime, stepbrothers Daniel and David Steinman and
grandfather Eugene Glime.

Glime was born in Pontiac and grew up in White Lake. He graduated from
Walled Lake Central High School in 2002 and took business and culinary
classes at Lansing Community College while he managed the cafeteria.

Glime's family will hold a visitation and memorial service from 1 p.m. to 3
p.m. Sunday at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home in Royal Oak, 32515 Woodward
Ave. Call (248) 549-0500 for more information.

Memorial tributes can be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind, P.O. Box 5000,
Rochester, Mich., 48308-5000.
