Eric,
We the public do not yet know if there were any witnesses to the accident,
and the police aren't revealing that yet.

I know the accident happened about 8:30 p.m. in the evening at or near an
intersection of streets surrounded by a church and several office buildings,
so unless there was another motorist around at the time of the accident,
which is unlikely for that area and intersection at that hour, there likely
was no eyewitnesses at the scene. We will simply have to wait for the
police to release their accident investigation results, and then those
results may raise more questions than answers, as often the case in an
accident like this, especially absent any eyewitnesses, as the driver may be
the only person able to provide a statement of that which transpired.

Terri, that's abysmal, and I'd like to ask: Why didn't any witnesses come
forward? That was never established in the article.

Eric from Los Angeles reminds you to remember to try to be good to each
other. eric at pmpmail.com; also on Facebook.
