LANSING — One person was arrested for resisting and obstructing a peace officer during an Americans with Disabilities Act demonstration Thursday at the Capitol, the Michigan State Police said in a news release. The person was warned not to interfere with police officers and was arrested after crossing a barricade and shoving two State Police Capitol Security officers, the news release said. Police did not release the man’s name, pending arraignment. State Police spokeswoman Shanon Banner said in an email to the State Journal on Friday that he was from Mount Morris and born in 1952.The arrest happened during a large ADA celebration on the Capitol lawn. Protesters organized a simultaneous counter-demonstration to criticize some of the main event’s sponsors for paying persons with disabilities less than the minimum wage. That’s allowed for certain types of work under exemptions to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Police set up barricades to separate the two sides.Banner said Friday she didn’t know whether the man was from the main demonstration or the counter-protest.
