The Division of Inclusion and Equity at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) seeks an experienced and collaborative leader to oversee its Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity Program as the Director, Affirmative Action/EEO & Equity Officer. Located in the Greater Grand Rapids. Michigan area, GVSU offers high quality programs and state-of-the-art facilities and attracts more than 25,000 students from across the country and around the world. The mission of the Division of Inclusion and Equity is to advance GVSU's social justice framework for equity and inclusion. The division coordinates sustainable and strategic institutional efforts to engage all members of the community while also intentionally supporting and advocating for historically underrepresented communities. The division's work furthers the university's liberal education and student-centered mission. In the spirit of this mission, the Division seeks a Director who will support the university's commitment to provide all members of its community an inclusive environment and equitable opportunities for success. This includes supporting the university's work to maintain a climate conducive to an educational, living, and employment environment that is free from unlawful acts of harassment and discrimination. The successful candidate will report to the Assistant Vice President for Inclusion and Equity, which oversees equity, planning and compliance, and will work closely with the Title IX Coordinator & Equity/Officer, ADA Compliance Officer, and Civil Rights Investigator(s), as well as with partners across the University including Human Resources, the Provost's Office, and the Dean of Students Office. - Oversee the recruitment, hiring, promotion and documentation process giving approval in employment searches by monitoring all employment operations, activities and procedures to certify compliance with the University's equal employment opportunity and affirmative action policies and commitments.
- Consult with deans, unit heads, directors, and supervisors around practices and options related to inclusive employment searches, including equal employment opportunity and affirmative action regulations.
- Coordinate the university's Affirmative Action Plan.
- Ensure EEO-1 Forms (federal compliance requirement) are submitted in a timely manner.
- Oversee demographic self-reporting and compliance notices.
- Provide leadership and oversight of the Inclusion Advocates Program.
- Develop and implement training related to inclusive hiring and EEO/AA regulations.
- Conduct exit interviews, if requested by employees for diversity related reasons.
- Assist with investigations in consultation with others related to affirmative action/equal employment opportunity, and title IX
- Provide support for bias incident response involving employees.
- Oversee and ensure implementation of the university's Anti-Harassment and Non-Discrimination Policy.
- Serve as the liaison between the university and government agencies, advocacy groups, and others regarding the university's equal opportunity and affirmative action programs, policies, and commitments and in consultation with the University Counsel Office in settings where litigation is pending or threatened or when external agencies are involved
- Coordinate the dissemination of information regarding the University's AA/EEO policies to all applicants, employees, and students of the university.
- Work closely with the Title IX Coordinator and Equity Officer/Director, and ADA Compliance Coordinator.

This position may provide supervision to the following employment status employees: Administrative Professionals, Professional Support Staff, Temporary Staff and undergraduate student employees, and Graduate Assistants          Required Qualifications and Education     - Graduate degree in higher education, law, social work, human resources or closely related field.
- At least 3 years of professional work experience in legal, regulatory, federal/state compliance, human resources, Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity (AA/EEO), Title VI and Title VII.
- Ability to organize and conduct effective investigations, prepare clear and concise written analyses of complaints, and make recommendations for management action.
- Ability to design, develop and present effective training and educational programs on AA/EEO and diversity.
- Experience in or demonstrated understanding of social justice education and/or initiatives, and/or inclusion, diversity, and/or intercultural training
- Excellent communication skills 
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality          Preferred Qualifications and Education     - Terminal degree in a related field preferred
- Experience preparing Affirmative Action Plans, and presenting relevant data to hiring managers for support during recruitment and hiring
- Working knowledge of ADA, Title IX, Clery, VAWA and other relevant nondiscrimination laws, regulations and guidance
- Understanding of the Division of Inclusion and Equity's strategic plan, and the university's Framework for Inclusion and Equity
- Experience working with and understanding of underrepresented and diverse populations
- Experience with training development and facilitation
