Hello Elizabeth.
The state affiliate did not start paying the expenses of people attending the board meetings who just come to be at the meeting or to participate when comments are called for from the floor.
As you know the only ones required to be at a board meeting are the board members or anyone who may have business with the state board . This might require their presence at the meeting, in other words, someone who needs to be on the agenda. In that case I might choose to make the offer to assist with their transportation or anything else if it seems appropriate. If someone has been in conversation with me several times in the months since our state convention about progress or problems they are experiencing while working on our behalf, which in this case is putting time in on setting up the website, I consider making an offer to assist as a courtesy especially since traveling to Detroit on their own might present some difficulties.
As you saw from my response I said I would have no problem but I also said we would talk more about it when I get back. Reimbursement can come from a number of sources such as one's chapter, the hosting chapter , or an individual might help personally. I would do the same for you or anyone else working on something for me and our affiliate and the board needed to be involved with the process of making decisions concerning it.
I hope this answers your question. Stay in touch.
Mike

Hello Mike,

I am curious, when did the state affiliate start paying for individual members to attend the state affiliate board meetings? It was my understanding that the state affiliate only paid for the board members to attend the state affiliate board meetings. However, if my understanding is incorrect, how can individual members receive financial assistance to attend the state affiliate board meetings? Any information you could provide in regards to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Elizabeth

Hello Taylor.
I would have no problem helping you by reimbursing you for your train ticket. We can talk more about it when I get back.
