[nFBMI-Talk] GR rolls out new Michigan Street crossing signal. Anyone know if it is Accessible?

Hi J.J,

The signal mentioned in the GR article is called a HAWK signal.  HAWK
stands for High Intensity Activated Crosswalk. It has been around for a
long time but not often used because it is more expensive than other, less
accessible, options.  It should come standard with both an audible "Wait"
and "Walk" message as well as a vibrating arrow.   We have one in Ann
Arbor.  Research shows that cars stop 95 percent of the time.  Because it
produces a red "stop" light it is much safer than a Rapid Flashing Beacon,
which only flashes a yellow "yield" light.
