Good Morning All,

Thank you, Marcus, for sharing the information about this opportunity. I support Mike's interpretation of how we can approach this. This type of advocacy would be beneficial if the committee will operate in good faith with the needs of our consumers. Perhaps we can set up a subcommittee, led by a board member, that joins the advocacy group. It would benefit to have more people that share our philosophical views in the room. A reminder to our membership that when requests come in like this it is both customary and a benefit to inform the state affiliate board. Chapters and divisions are extensions of our affiliate, unable to hold non-profit status or a charter without knowledge and consensus of the elected officers and board members. Thus, when representing our organization on a state scale we thrive to keep this communication and coordination so that we maintain consistent messaging and truly reflect the brand of the Federation. This request is NOT a local advocacy project, as members of this group would be representing the NFB on a state scale and blind people throughout the state use DTW for connections, departures and arrivals. I will reach out to the individual that sent the invitation to inform them of our state board and how our organization can support this committee. I have noted the individuals that expressed interest and will be in contact. Please feel free to reach out directly if others are interested in this state advocacy project.

With Love, Hope and Determination,

Robert Parsons, Jr.

This is Michael Powell, past president of the NFB of Michigan. I was contacted and served on that committee which did have one meeting either in 2018 or 19 while I was the affiliate president. There were attempts to get another meeting during the covid lockdown but it never materialized.
This should be looked at by President Parsons and the state board as our affiliate worked on finally resolving the situation concerning the pickup and drop off locations that were of concern to the blind and others with disabilities. We were also interested in continuing work on making Metro Airport more accessible.
The committee didn't have much consumer representation as the participants came mainly from agency or other interests that work with people with disabilities rather than disability groups or organizations.
Please call me if you have any questions.

Same. Please let me know if having a blind disability rights attorney on the committee would be helpful.

Warmth,
Sanho
