Good morning, Federation Family,
The blind people's movement in Michigan has been hard at work, consistently
developing ideas on ways we can innovate our programs to meet the needs of
the blind. These needs include both individual ones for blind youth and
their families, as well as greater overarching needs that come from the
experiences faced by blind youth, blind parents, parents of blind children
and the community of people that work with them. It's exciting to both
promote and describe the third year of the National Federation of the Blind
of Michigan's Raising Expectations Accessing Life (REAL) program, our
weekend-long youth and family program aimed at expanding the horizons of
blind youth and their families in new academic or professional spaces. Here
are some short details about the 2025 NFBMI REAL program:
* The 2025 REAL program will take place throughout the Dearborn and
Metro Detroit area, including instruction at the University of Michigan's
Dearborn Environmental Interpretative Center.
* The program is a concurrent experience with two tracks: NFB STEM2U
(ages 10-16) and our innovative NFBMI Parent Education track.
* All participants have an option to sign up for our annual NFBMI
Flint-Genesee formal gala during registration as an extension of the
program, boasting opportunities for networking, increased travel, and an
illustration of the Federation's efforts at work.
Friends, there is so much included in this weekend experience. From
age-appropriate, engaging activities with like-minded youth to
thought-provoking and action-oriented discussions for parents and families
from blind Federationists and professionals, the 2025 REAL program brings
the excitement June 27-29, 2025. The updated, finalized flyer for our
program is attached to this message for your distribution. Please share this
flyer with friends, families and individuals that relate to those that you
feel are eligible for this program. I have also included the registration
link below for distribution. If you have questions about the program,
please feel free to email President at nfbmi.org <mailto:President at nfbmi.org>
or our Youth and Family Committee Chair, Donna Posont, at
