Hello to my fellow Federationists throughout Indiana and Michigan.
We blind people, representing a cross-section of all Americans, have
passionate beliefs about a lot of topics. So as I write this message, I am
pretty sure that any mention of national politics, whether "Red" or "Blue,"
would more than likely spawn intense arguments on a list like this one. So
I will not mention any specific policy statements here. On the other hand,
I am just as sure that those on a blindness-related mailing list understand
we are living at an unprecedented and historically important age. I
suspect nearly all of us wish to hear as much of this history as we can get
in living color. This is where audio description comes in.
Aira has announced on their Facebook page that they will be providing
detailed descriptive narration to go along with Monday's inauguration of
Donald J Trump as he commences his second term as president of the United
States. The announcement reads in part: "Aira is thrilled to provide live
Visual Interpreting for the 2025 US Presidential Inaugural Ceremony on
January 20, 2025, starting at 9:00 AM PST. Don’t miss this historic event
featuring the swearing-in of incoming US President Donald Trump. ... Our
interpreters will describe staging, wardrobe, gestures, and other important
visual details."
To get to this live audio description in real time, first open the Aira
Explorer app on your connected device. Then select the *More* tab; if
you're using an iPhone or iPad, you will find this in the extreme lower
right portion of your touchscreen. Then, swipe right until you get to
*Events*; going from left to right, this will be the sixth element you
could select under the *More* tab. Beginning at noon Eastern Time on
Monday, January 20, you will find here a link that connects you to a
running description of the visual elements of the presidential inauguration
ceremony until 4:00 PM Eastern. If you want to take in the auditory
content of the program at the same time, you will want to turn your
television or radio on at the same time as you listen to Aira's
descriptions.
I am also told that NBC Television will be providing descriptive audio that
is synced up with the music and dialogue elements of the ceremony itself.
NBC's descriptive audio starts at 10:00 AM Eastern Time and also runs until
4:00 PM. How you get to NBC's descriptive audio will depend on how you
interact with your television. If you have questions about how to
manipulate a cable box, a Roku, or some other device through which you tune
to the descriptive audio channel, please call the provider of your TV
service. Even if you use just an antenna capable of picking up the digital
signal that comes over the air, you should be able to activate the SAP
channel with your remote.
Happy listening.
Cordially,
