Hello!
We are a team of accessibility researchers from the University of Michigan
working to develop new applications for blind people to access visual
information. We are conducting two paid, in-person research studies and are
looking for blind or low-vision participants! Both studies will take about
2 hours each, take place in the GG Brown Building, University of Michigan (2350
Hayward St, Ann Arbor, MI 48109
<https://www.google.com/maps/search/2350+Hayward+St,+Ann+Arbor,+MI+48109?entry=gmail&source=g>),
and be scheduled sometime in February and March.
*Study 1: Smartglasses Observation Study. *The study focuses on observing
participant behaviors while using the smartglasses AI system during
object‑search tasks. During this session, we will collect multimodal data,
including voice commands, head and hand movement signals, smartglasses
video, and external camera video.
*Study 2: Understanding real-world changes with an AI companion.* In this
study, we are looking for participants to test a smartphone application
that can remember the environment and describe changes when the user
revisits it (e.g., obstacles removed, appeared, etc.). We will have three
different indoor spaces in the building for you to explore and revisit.
If you are interested in participating, please fill out this quick (< 10
minutes) screening survey.
Here is the link: https://forms.gle/gu2HQ3K63KtCZTjYA
The purpose of the screening is to verify eligibility for the research
study. We will reach out to you after you complete the survey to provide
more details about the studies and schedule times.
If you are selected to take part in the studies, you will be compensated
$50 per hour for your time (as an Amazon gift card or physical check).
Transportation costs will also be reimbursed to a limit.
This study is IRB-approved (#HUM00239635). Feel free to email
atstudies-26 at umich.edu if you have any questions.
