The entire world stops to listen and count the birds. You may think that there are few to count in Michigan because they all migrated like us humans wish we had this winter. However, the woods are filled with Black-capped chickadees, Northern cardinals, Downy woodpeckers,and many other species like the Mourning dove and Tufted Tit mouse. It is our job to get outside and count the numbers of winter residents. This data will be used to evaluate the health of various species in various habitats.<u></u><u></u></p><p class="MsoNormal">This year we will meet on February 14, Valentines Day,at the Environmental Interpretive Center on the campus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. We will investigate in the natural area behind the Henry Ford estate. While we are out there we will tap a Sugar maple tree for sap. When we return next month, March 14, we will check our progress and see if our tree contributed to the cooking stove to transform into delicious maple syrup.<u></u><u></u></p><p class="MsoNormal">We will also play Birdbrain Jeopardy, make birdfeeders, study tactile snowflakes, and enjoy the sounds in the birding room.<u></u><u></u></p><p class="MsoNormal">Please join us from 9-5 on February 14 or any part of that day which you have available.
