Subject: Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD)

Wolfner Library Patrons,

Wolfner staff will be available to help eligible patrons enroll in the NLS Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) system at two state wide events in April.

Friends of Wolfner Library Annual Meeting

Saturday April 25, 2009

James C. Kirkpatrick State Information Center

600 West Main Street

Jefferson City, Missouri

Power Up 2009 Conference & Expo

Monday April 27-28, 2009

Holiday Inn Select

Booth 19

Columbia, Missouri

You must have an email address in order to register with the BARD program to download the over 14,000 digital NLS books and magazines. The NLS digital player, that will replace the NLS cassette player in the coming year, will play BARD audio material with either a blank NLS cartridge or a standard USB drive. In addition, Wolfner Library has a limited number of Victor Reader Streams to loan to patrons.

At both events Wolfner staff will have Victor Reader Stream players to loan to Wolfner patrons wanting to download books over the internet from the BARD system.

If you are planning to attend the Friends of Wolfner Library Annual Meeting or Power Up 2009 Conference & Expo please remember to stop by the Wolfner Library booth to register for BARD and to take home your Wolfner Library Stream loaner.

Requirements for the Stream player for loan from Wolfner Library are:

· You must be a Wolfner Library patron in good standing.

· You must have a high-speed Internet connection or regular access to one.

· You must have a working e-mail address and knowledge of how to use it, including handling attachments.

· You must have a reasonable knowledge of how to use the web, fill out forms online, download large items, and unzip files.

· You must have a working knowledge of file management; that is, you must be able to create folders to put your books in, and locate the proper folders from which to extract your books.

· You must download a minimum of 2 NLS books or magazines a month.

· You must be comfortable using small electronic devices such as TV remotes or cell phones.
