March 26 - 28, 2010
In 2010 The National Federation of the Blind of Missouri will hold our annual convention in the Queen City of the Ozarks, Springfield. The area is the hub of all the action in Southwest Missouri including Missouri State University and nearby Branson - the real live music capitol of the United States. We gather in fellowship to renew friendships and celebrate the organization at the forefront of making life better for blind persons.
Our hotel this year is the Clarion with exceptional room rates of $71.95 a night plus tax of $8.78 (tax rate subject to change). The upscale Clarion Hotel is less than one mile from the Battlefield Mall featuring over 150 shops and services. Missouri State University and Drury University are less than five miles away. The Springfield/Branson Airport is only 17 miles away.
Sports fans and outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy near by attractions and points of interest like the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and Bass Pro Shop, both just three miles away. The awe-inspiring Fantastic Caverns and Springfield Conservation Nature Center are less than ten miles from the hotel. The surrounding area offers a variety of entertainment venues, specialty shops, restaurants, and cocktail lounges.
The hotel features two dining establishments on the property. The Newsroom Café serves delicious breakfasts and the Classic Sports Cafe offers a delicious dinner menu. Guests are invited to enjoy many superior amenities including free airport transportation, free coffee in the lobby, and free high speed internet access.
***For the first time we have a very special offer just for persons registering early. There will be a drawing for $100.00 cash from among those who have there registrations postmarked on or before March 14, 2010. So, get your form in without delay!***
Also, convention registration post marked on or before March 14, 2010 will be $10.00. After March 14 the cost to register will be $15.00. We have several planned meals throughout the weekend at prices lower than the industry norm. The highlight will be our Saturday banquet for $25.00. We will also have a planned lunch Saturday for $13.00 and our annual Prayer Breakfast Sunday morning at a cost of $5.00. The planned meals are open to all attendees and all are encouraged to take advantage of these meals as there are not many other restaurant facilities in easy walking distance.
We again will be offering child care for those children in need of supervised care. There is no cost. Care will be provided on Saturday during the morning and afternoon sessions, the evening banquet until 9:00 p.m. and the Sunday morning session which will adjourn at 12:00 p.m. Meals are not provided in child care so parents need to make arrangements to feed their children. Important: Parents wanting care for their children must send a request on or before March 14, 2009.
Exhibit space is free to the chapters and divisions of the NFB for federation fund raising and information distribution and for a cost of $25.00 to outside exhibitors. The Springfield Chapter looks forward to welcoming everyone to the beautiful rolling hills of Southwest Missouri and wants to do our best to make sure you have lots of fun and fellowship throughout the weekend.
