Hi!

We were surprised to learn from one of our regular cab drivers this morning that this was in the Kansas City Star. Then we got an email from our soon to be daughter-in-law with the text of the letter to the editor. We didn't know that Jim Porter was going to do this. It was a total surprise, so we aren't responsible for the term sightless. There was an article last week-end in the Star about a blind barbershopper in Jefferson City. We are trying to get a hold of Rita to notify her about this man and are going to send the article about him to her. I guess Jim Porter thought that the Star should have looked at our own choras instead of going so far afield.

We will leave it up to you whether you think this should go on the list.

Your Friends,

Jim and Jana Moynihan

Hey Mr. & Mrs. M!

You're famous! One of your barbershop friends, Jim Porter, sent in some information about you. Here's is the context of the article:

Kansas City’s own sightless singer
Thank you for the good article about Ken Strong of Jefferson City (8/30, Local, “Sightless singer belts out barbershop baritone”). The Kansas City chapter of the Barbershop Society also has a sightless singer.

Jim Moynihan has sung lead in the Heart of America Chorus for more than 10 years. He is a very capable singer who learns our music quickly from available soundtracks and by recording the sounds of the chorus during our practices. He can follow the director by listening for sounds from his fellow singers such as taking breaths between phrases. He also learns to move with the chorus by taking cues from his neighbors.

Here's a link to the blog where it was posted on Sept. 6th: http://blogs.kansascity.com/unfettered_letters/2009/09/kansas-citys-own-sightless-singer.html

How exciting!
