We learned early this morning that the Missouri Division of Children's
Services wanted to settle and released Mikaela to her parents just hours
before the hearing. Blake and Erika are very happy to have their baby at
home where she belongs. This is truly a victory for them but it cannot be
the end of this case.

 

There have been several interviews already with the media this afternoon.
The NFB of Missouri will be working with the attorney and the parents to
proceed with litigation. The injustice cannot be undone; Nor can these
parents regain precious time they should have had with their newborn. We
must work to be sure this does not happen to other blind couples when they
enter a hospital to have their baby.

 

More will be forthcoming in the days to come.
