Subject: [NFBAffiliatePresidents] Taking Advantage of Recess

To All Affiliate Presidents:

Congress is currently on recess, but we cannot afford to rest. I would like
to encourage you and your legislative coordinator to work to schedule
appointments with your senators in their local district offices to discuss
the subminimum wage issue. Primarily, we need to educate every senator
about the exploitation of workers with disabilities caused by Section 14(c)
of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which will be expanded by Section 511 of
Title V of the Workforce Investment Act, if passed.

Specifically, if the senator is a member of the Senate HELP committee, you
should encourage him/her to vote to remove Section 511 of Title V of the
Workforce Investment Act. If the senator is not a member of the Senate HELP
committee, you should encourage him/her to consider sponsoring our Fair
Wages legislation.

Use the attached copies of the two resolutions passed at our national
convention for your talking points. Let me know if your senator is
interested in being a sponsor of our Fair Wages legislation, and I will work
with you to begin the process.

Please contact me if you have any questions, or if I can provide you with
any additional information.

Sincerely,

Anil
