Yes in deed, I also beg everyone who did not attend to contact
your
legislature in mass.. We need for the whole state to know that
it is NOT OK
to take our children simply because we are blind.
Gary, I would like to continue to volunteer in any way to further
this
effort. Please respond if there is anything at all that I can
do.
Thanks,
Randy Carmack

A salute to everyone who participated in the 2011 Jeff City
Legislative
Seminar. The presence of the Lewis and Clark Chapter was
awesome. Jeff City
had either nine or ten working, as well. Although their
distance to travel
is much less than some of us, their commitment warrents a big
thank you as
well. Kansas City had 7 this year and Columbia had 4. I
think this was
the largest and most enthusiastic turn out in many years.
I know that the chapters who scheduled appointments in advance
saw all but
a handful of the legislators assigned to their chapters
directly. This may
have been true for those that took a different approach. It
really Seems
like overall direct contacts was higher than usual.
If you were not able to participate in person, now is an
excellent time for
you to contact your representative and senator. Ask them to
support:
HB 555 and SB 134 - Parental Rights for Disabled parents
HB 559 - Accessible Instructional Materials (Text Bill
HB 02 Funding for Blind Student Literacy which includes the
Blind Skills
Specialist Program
It's fresh on their minds right now. Keep the momentum going!

Hi all,
10 members from the Lewis & Clark chapter in St. Louis
attended the
2011 Jefferson City Seminar held February 21 and 22 to meet our
elected
representatives to advocate for the Missouri affiliate's
legislative
initiatives. Our legislative and budgetary solutions to
deficits in
accessible
educational resource and rights of disabled parents were overall
very
well-received. A sizeable proportion of the lawmakers we met
with are
very eager
and willing to support and cosponsor our legislation, and a
gratifyingly
significant group of them expressed interest in sponsoring - and
crafting
-
legislative solutions with us in the future.
Thanks to Brian Wekamp and the Governmental Affairs
Committee for
providing the framework for what we hope will be a successful
session for
the
Missouri NFB legislation.
Lewis & Clark members in attendance were:
Susan Ford, Bill Franklin, Jerry Wilson, Brent Ford, Cari Kness,
Dan
Flasar, Jim Moynihan, Randy Carmack, Diana Dawn and Chris
Tisdale.
I would like to add that the Lewis & Clark chapter beat all
others in
terms of providing the largest delegation for this years Jeff
City
Seminar, proving once and for all that motley assemblages of
political
malcontents can be quite effective when encouraged to march in
the same
direction.
Now, let's go get 'em,
Dan Flasar
Lewis & Clark Chapter
