[Nfbmo] Last minute additions for the agenda

I am feeling better now and plan to go to work tomorrow.

I work part time at Penn Valley Community College for the Access Department. This is the department that provides services for handicapped students. I have been told that the Penn Valley Access Office is the best one of the Metropolitan Community College Campuses. I know disabled students are placed at our campus because we provide the services that are needed.
I don't know the process of what it takes to honor someone or a group, but I would like the NFB of Missouri to honor them. Connie Speas is in change of the department. She is a counselor. Marella Jones is my boss. She provides services for students. Christian Ethington is our secretary, also assists in test taking, sometimes acting as a scribe, too. We have two part-time persons in charge of testing. If you need accommodations above taking a test in class, then you can take them in my department.
Tim Sears does the transcribing and producing into alternate formats. Most of them are disc. He is in charge of this for all of the MCC Campuses. He also trains people on how to use the computer in alternate ways. And he is in charge of the adaptive equipment that students also need. Together with a student worker, scribes and note takers, we are a close knit, hard working group of people.
At the beginning of each semester we hand out a lot of accommodation letters to students. There are piles of discs containing textbooks ready for blind students to pick up. Most semesters we work with over 100 professors regarding various services, especially the alternate testing.

The one disappointment I have is that when servicing blind students, we do not use braille. I know the excuses, but I still feel that for short things, it could be used. Many of our blind or legally blind students do not seem to know it. There is a braille machine on campus. For years it was in our technology lab. Then it was moved upstairs to Tim's area. It was like a big booth, with a lid of plastic.

What do you think can be done at this date? We work hard and I feel that recognition is due.

Thank you in advance regardng this matter,

    Diana : )
