Hi Dan. You are right. My subject was in error. We will do singing at the
banquet and singing during the session in addition to the contest. I ordered
print and braille songbooks.

Warmly,

Gary

Gary,
The subject line for your post was a bit confusing - it reads The
Federation Son Contest - which made me wonder about how the sons of the NFB
would compete - and then felt a little concerned about all those daughters
of the NFB might feel left out, but then I noticve that nationally, girls
and women are eating our lunch in every field and school so ... tough!
But now I see that it's a song contest. I'm not much of a song writer
but I have engaged in fitting lyrics to songs. Perhaps another year. One
thing I would like to do is record some of the NFB songs for posterity.
There are collections of songs from the union organizing era, from the
struggles of African-Americans to attain their rightful place in the US -
and we should do the same for the historic anthems of the struggle for blind
equity. I do note that many or our songs are satirical - in the best
tradition of songs of struggle. Can we have a time - perhaps at the
banquet, for a few people to get up and sing as many of the NFB songs as
possible? I will record them on my Olympus and share them with Gary Horchem
for the website.
Dan

Please remember that $100 awaits the person with the best Federation song as
voted by the convention assembled on Saturday afternoon, March 31. Make it
about yesterday, today or tomorrow, but write it and be prepared to share it
with the group. Only two entrants so far, so bring on the talent.
